Helping you get your portfolio ready for the next chapter.
We're always looking for exceptional team members.
A superior benefits and rewards program is an essential part of our commitment to our employees.
We both believe in going further, doing more, being all-in on the things most important in life.
As an asset manager, our number one job is delivering investment results to help you save for college, retirement or any other ambition. We align an active, risk-aware, long-term approach to managing money for clients’ needs. That means not letting anything stand in the way of our performance-first focus. For 60 years, this commitment has not wavered.
Whether designing tailored strategies for global institutional clients, providing a range of solutions and insights to financial advisors, or developing a comprehensive financial plan for individual investors—our mandate is to serve up unique solutions for unique situations.
It began with our late founder, Jim Stowers Jr., who in 1958 started American Century Investments based on the simple belief: “If we make others successful, we in turn will be successful.”
His vision began with helping clients achieve their financial goals, but grew to include making significant, ongoing contributions to humanity through life-saving research. Both are the foundation for our dedication to results today.
"Be More Invested" means connecting deeply. Just like some aspects of your life inspire you to be more invested, we too are more invested in what we do for clients. We do that by staying true to you and to ourselves.
From two mutual funds and $100,000 in seed money to over $170 billion1 in assets under management, our values have not changed. Real people being able to pay for their life’s dreams still drives us.
How can we help you?
Mutual funds were the foundation of our business, but we didn’t stop there. As clients’ needs change, we expand our money management capabilities.
Over the years, we evolved traditional and alternative strategies that span six investment disciplines to provide more comprehensive solutions. And we offer investment vehicles such as Collective Investment Trusts, Separate Accounts, ETFs, and SICAVs for greater access.
Our clients have growing concerns about the environment, corporate governance and social responsibility. We reflect those issues in specific products. For example, we launched no tobacco underlying funds in our target date series in support of our passion to eliminate cancer; and we’ve expanded considerations across our product line-up that address environmental, social and governance ESG criteria.
It’s all about taking the mystery out of investing and helping clients at whatever point on their path. From straightforward, complimentary education to meeting advanced financial planning needs, we’re committed to making investing less complicated.
The weekly "America’s Financial Coach" radio show, frequent blog articles and webinars address pressing money topics, such as retirement readiness and social security.
Carrying the torch of our founder, we continue to promote published works based on his personal principles for financial freedom and sharing that knowledge with your children. Two books available to the public are Yes, You Can…Achieve Financial Independence and Raising Financially Aware Kids.
Our Private Client Group2 provides transparent advice to clients who want a trusted partner as the journey gets more complex; or other clients may just need someone to talk it through. Either way, there is a reason why our clients rate our representatives with 97% satisfaction3 and stay with us for nearly 20 years.
To take the concepts of financial knowledge literally to clients, we partnered with Investopedia on the 2017 Financial Fitness Tour. This six-city tour ignited conversations about financial fitness with representatives from both companies speaking to hundreds of people about pocketbook issues, including managing debt, saving for college and retirement planning.
Trust is the foundation of any solid relationship. It takes on even greater importance because you are entrusting your money to our care. We take that seriously and work hard to do the right thing. We apply this same integrity to protecting your privacy and have proactively established processes to monitor for fraudulent activity for your protection.
Giving back is a core value—our employees live it every day. The American Century Foundation supports these efforts through a matching donation program and also provides grants in communities where employees live and work. In 2016, the Foundation granted over $1.5 million.
Ultimately for us, Being More Invested means making a difference in all peoples' lives. It started with our late founder’s passion and still drives us today.
Inspired by his and his wife’s personal experiences with cancer, Jim and Virginia Stowers wanted to give back to the countless people who made their lives so meaningful. To help do that, they founded the Stowers Institute for Medical Research to help the millions of people affected by devastating diseases.
The Institute seeks to improve life’s quality through innovative approaches to the causes, treatment and prevention of diseases like cancer, diabetes and dementia.
Knowing this ambitious research takes a long-term commitment, Jim and Virginia endowed the Institute with a controlling interest in American Century Investments, which has paid $1.4 billion in dividends since 2000.
American Century Investments was founded by James E. Stowers, Jr.

It's why we focus on long-term investments and put independent thinking at the forefront. We don’t blindly follow trends.
Going the extra mile is for our clients. We don't take any short cuts.
It's the way our founder did it. It's the same way we do it today and the same way we'll do it tomorrow.
Collective Investment Trusts: Collective investment trusts (CITs) are a pooled vehicle commonly used by ERISA retirement plans. CITs group assets from multiple plans into one pooled portfolio. CITs are only available to ERISA-qualified retirement plans, and are not available to the general public.
Separate Account: A separate account is a type of investment vehicle managed by professional asset managers. Separate accounts have unique structure that allows for more flexibility in customizing the investment portfolio to address specific client needs or investment objectives. Securities held in the account are owned directly by the investor or investors.
Exchange Traded Funds: Similar to a mutual fund, an exchange-traded fund (ETF) represents a group of securities, but the ETF trades on an exchange like an individual stock. An ETF generally follows the performance of an index, such as the S&P 500 Index.
SICAVs: A Société d'investissement à Capital Variable, or SICAV, is a publicly traded, open-end investment fund structure offered outside the United States. SICAV funds are similar to open-end mutual funds in the U.S, but are not available to U.S. domiciled investors.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Factors: A set of standards used by socially conscious investors to screen potential investments. Environmental issues consider how companies act as stewards towards the natural environment, including how they design their products, handle waste, manage their real estate, etc. Depending on the sector, social issues can include product safety and quality, cybersecurity, supply chain management and stakeholder engagement. Governance issues include business conduct, board independence, risk management structures and executive pay-for-performance alignment.
