A superior benefits and rewards program is an essential part of our commitment to our employees.
Awarded by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, American Century Investments® meets the highest standard of wellness based on five "pillars" of health.
Local businesses can play a significant role in improving the health of workers and their families. That is the impetus behind the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce's Healthy KC Workplace Wellness Certification Program. This initiative recognizes organizations for their efforts in creating a workplace focused on health and wellness.
Healthy KC is an initiative launched by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City in the spring of 2015, in collaboration with more than 100 area health and wellness organizations, businesses, government, and other sectors. The workplace wellness effort is one of five areas of focus for Healthy KC, along with active living, behavioral health, healthy eating, and tobacco use prevention and cessation.
The Healthy KC workplace wellness certification is based on five "pillars" of health: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation, and work/life integration and design/built environment. There are five levels of certification, based on a company's level of achievement across the five pillars—Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention.
The increased participation in this year's program demonstrates that more and more area companies are taking the health of their employees seriously.
"We are excited about placing Kansas City on the national map from a workplace wellness perspective," says Workplace Wellness Action Team Chair Kelly Murphy. "Through the Workplace Wellness certification process, companies have many opportunities to share best practices and learn from each other to improve their workplace wellness offerings. In turn, we have ambassadors and change agents in companies through the KC metro area that are offering programs to enhance the health and well being of employees and their families."
"We have seen many companies progress up through the levels of bronze, silver, gold and platinum as their workplace wellness programs become further defined," Murphy continued. "It is great to see so many innovations and creative programs being offered throughout the metro area. Together, we really are making a difference."
"We're very pleased by the results of this year's Healthy KC Certification," says Joe Reardon, President and CEO of the KC Chamber. "However, our work is not done. As we prepare for next year, we will continue to advance Healthy KC and the workplace wellness application until our Kansas City region is the healthiest place to live and work."
The certification process will be repeated each year. For more information, visit www.kcchamber.com or e-mail healthykc@kcchamber.com.
